Student Program

For years, Tasmania and in particular the agricultural sector, has suffered the departure of many skilled young Tasmanians who leave for careers on the mainland or overseas.

The Tasmanian Government has an ambitious goal to increase the annual value of the agricultural sector to $10 billion by 2050.  To reach $10 billion, the sector will need to grow at more than double the growth rate experienced over the past 20 years.

XLD whole heartily supports this government objective, but it cannot be done without the people. That is why we make it a priority to create opportunities, and provide support for young Tasmanians with an interest in agriculture.

Each year, we take on an enthusiastic team of Harvest Casuals, comprised largely of students from local schools and university, as well as those returning for summer from interstate colleges.

XLD provide industry training in grain testing, and machinery operation, as well as ongoing opportunities for career progression.

A number of our team have started out as harvest casuals, developing their role into permanent positions in other areas of the business.

XLD are also pleased to have a graduate program, offering recently graduated university students’ versatile positions throughout XLD include finance, marketing, trading and logistics.

Intake for XLD Harvest Team begins in October each year, and continues throughout the season.
